Prerequisites:
None. The
course is geared toward managers and others in a supervisory or administrative
capacity of a canine program. Experience handling a working dog is
NOT required.
Synopsis
This is an intensive
course designed to provide law enforcement / security professionals with
the knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively administrate a canine
program. Although this course is ideal for those without prior canine
program experience, it will also enhance the current knowledge of those
with prior canine program supervision experience by covering the latest
developments in canine operations.
Students will
learn the various types of resources needed to establish and maintain a
canine program. They will also learn the best practices used for
kennel operations and canine utilization. Canine Health and establishing
standard operating procedures will also be discussed. We will also
teach how to properly handle, secure and establish accountability of explosives
and narcotics training aids. Instruction will also be given on the
various legal considerations involved in a canine program. During
the course students will learn the need for good documentation of training
and utilization. Students will also gain knowledge of various evaluation
systems and standards used to measure canine team effectiveness.
Additionally, we will discuss the behavioral science involved in canine
training and best practices when conducting field proficiency training.
*Note:
This
course is strictly designed for canine program management, supervision,
and administration. Upon graduation,
attendees are not considered to be Canine - Handlers, Trainers or Instructors
based on this course alone.
